New Tool on Suspilne: Option to File a Complaint to the Commission on Journalistic Ethics

If a material published on Suspilne (Public Broadcasting) violates the requirements of the Ethics Code of the Ukrainian Journalist, every user has the right to file a complaint to the Commission on Journalistic Ethics, an independent self-regulatory agency for journalists and newsrooms in Ukraine.

The website of PAT NSTU, the biggest independent media company in Ukraine, now contains the necessary mechanism: there is the full Ethics Code of the Ukrainian Journalist and a button linking to the Commission’s website.

Compliance with ethical standards in journalism is an important component of high-quality and truthful information, which is why public participation in control over compliance helps to maintain high professional standards in the media.

“Actually, this was part of our previously planned website development objectives. Your email with the proposal arrived just in time: it had just become technically possible to implement it, and this became an impetus for our entire team to introduce this tool as soon as possible. We have previously published our principles on the use of artificial intelligence on the website. This is our systematic work on the website, which takes into account our responsibility to the audience, also providing a more modern tool to interact with our readers. I would like to remind you that we also respond to personal emails and requests from hotlines. In the context of media self-regulation, this is our step towards constructive criticism and suggestions,” said Mariia Frei, member of the board of Suspilne, who is responsible for news and regional broadcasting.

We will remind you that previously, NGL.media integrated the Ethics Code of the Ukrainian Journalist and launched a new page for complaints. This entails adhering to impartiality, honesty, transparency of sources, and responsibility for fixing errors. Readers who have discovered violations of ethics or errors in the materials can report it both to the editors and to the Commission on Journalistic Ethics.

The Commission on Journalistic Ethics remains open to cooperation and is ready to support the media in the process of implementing effective self-regulation mechanisms.
