This study is one of the first attempts in Ukraine to assess gender representation in managerial positions in the media. The findings can be used to strengthen gender equality policies both for government agencies of all levels and for individual media organizations. Namely, it can provide supporting data to the implementation of the state strategy for equal rights and opportunities for men and women. This is especially time-critical during the media reform in Ukraine, as legislation related to the media is being implemented.
The study involves data collection and further analysis. Women in Media NGO surveyed Ukrainian media workers regarding the representation of women in managerial positions. The survey also asked about the availability and implementation of equality and non-discrimination policies, as well as women’s leadership opportunities in media organizations. The survey is based on indicators used by the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE).
