Commission on Journalistic Ethics Prepared a Handbook on Journalistic Ethics

The electronic handbook on journalistic ethics for media professionals, media managers, students, and teachers of journalism departments has been created by the Commission on Journalistic Ethics and consists of eight chapters.

“Practicing ethics in journalism means practicing the truth. What is at the heart of ethics is a careful attitude towards the audience, willingness to avoid misleading the public. For a deluded audience, the danger of relying on false information, reaching false conclusions, and therefore not noticing the threats that arise as a result of malicious manipulations or our sloppy attitude to the standards of the profession, increases many times over. An ethical attitude to our society and adhering to ethical principles in our daily work protects our freedom,” said Andrii Kulykov, head of the Commission, in the foreword to the handbook.

The book provides practical recommendations regarding the adherence to ethical standards in the field of Ukrainian journalism. It includes recommendations on covering messages published on social media and covers indicators of complying with the requirements for high-quality journalism. The handbook explains the characteristic features of the use of the main journalistic genres, covers the issues of journalistic standards, gender equality, the specifics of the activities of journalists and the media during martial law.

In addition, the handbook contains the most important statements and recommendations of the Commission on Journalistic Ethics following Russia’s full-scale aggression and invasion into Ukraine on February 24, 2022.
