They also heard from members of working groups focused on joint responses in the audiovisual, audio, online, and print media sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1700\" height=\"955\" src=\"https:\/\/cje.org.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/Znimok-ekrana-3301-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9378\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cje.org.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/Znimok-ekrana-3301-1.jpg 1700w, https:\/\/cje.org.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/Znimok-ekrana-3301-1-1536x863.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/cje.org.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/Znimok-ekrana-3301-1-382x215.jpg 382w, https:\/\/cje.org.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/Znimok-ekrana-3301-1-804x452.jpg 804w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1700px) 100vw, 1700px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The conference featured opening remarks by Ricardo Guti\u00e9rrez, Secretary General of the European Federation of Journalists, and Olena Nitsko, Executive Secretary of Ukraine\u2019s National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cEthics is now a top priority for all members of the European Federation of Journalists. We live in a hostile environment where journalists are discredited, and trust in journalism is fading. It\u2019s our responsibility to show the public that we are committed to truth and serving society.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cIt\u2019s essential to have a system that guarantees the media\u2019s full independence from political and economic pressures. We must take decisive action to protect the integrity of both the media and journalists,\u201d <\/em>said Ricardo Guti\u00e9rrez in his speech.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1245\" height=\"811\" src=\"https:\/\/cje.org.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-42.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9366\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cje.org.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-42.png 1245w, https:\/\/cje.org.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-42-382x249.png 382w, https:\/\/cje.org.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-42-804x524.png 804w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1245px) 100vw, 1245px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Olena Nitsko highlighted that the National Council has been actively supporting and encouraging media to improve self-regulatory mechanisms and develop industry standards for many years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cSelf-regulation in the media is the highest form of accountability to the audience because editorial teams are the ones who truly understand which practices need to be adopted here and now. The National Council operates on the principle that any changes to legislation or regulatory processes should be preceded by consultations with the public, industry organizations, or independent experts \u2014 all for the sake of truth and society,\u201d<\/em> she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"471\" src=\"https:\/\/cje.org.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/Novyj-proyekt-2-1-800x471-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9376\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cje.org.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/Novyj-proyekt-2-1-800x471-1.jpg 800w, https:\/\/cje.org.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/Novyj-proyekt-2-1-800x471-1-382x225.jpg 382w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The conference also included speakers such as Muriel Ano (The Council for Ethical Journalism of the Belgian Press Council), Svitlana Ostapa (Public Broadcasting), Kateryna Miasnykova (National Media Association), Oleksandr Kharchenko (Gazeta.ua, Kraina), Oksana Romaniuk (Institute of Mass Information), Lina Kushch (National Union of Journalists of Ukraine), and Oksana Ostapko (StarLight Media LLC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wrapping up the event, Andrii Kulykov, the moderator and Chair of the Commission on Journalistic Ethics, said: <em>\u201cIt\u2019s incredibly important that the Commission on Journalistic Ethics and other media organizations are part of this conference. It shows that the industry is not just alive but actively exploring and finding better ways to evolve and collaborate. It underscores that meaningful cooperation among us is possible.<\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Nothing is impossible when people are united by a shared vision and the understanding that our collaboration strengthens the guarantees that protect freedom of speech in Ukraine.
