They are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Diana Dutsyk<\/strong>, Executive Director of the Ukrainian Institute of Media and Communication,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Lisa Kuzmenko<\/strong>, Head of Women in Media NGO,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Oleksii Pohorielov<\/strong>, President of the Ukrainian Media Business Association (UMBA),<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Oksana Romaniuk<\/strong>, Director of the Institute of Mass Information (IMI), and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Serhii Tomilenko<\/strong>, Head of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe have decided to revitalize our Committee on Freedom of Speech, including by forming the composition of the Public Council. The Council serves as an advisory body that proposes, criticizes, analyzes, and offers expertise on issues related to freedom of speech. The goal is to make the Committee&#8217;s work as transparent as possible,\u201d said Yaroslav Yurchyshyn, head of the Committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201c<\/em>For the Commission, it is crucial that the topic of professional ethics and standards not be sidelined when shaping national policy in ensuring freedom of speech. After all, the quality of journalists&#8217; work during wartime is, without exaggeration, a matter of national security. In addition, it&#8217;s crucial for the Committee to be bolstered through a renewed Public Council, given the numerous challenges we face in the media sphere today,\u201d said <strong>Diana Dutsyk<\/strong>, who was appointed to the Public Council by the Commission on Journalistic Ethics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Public Council will deal with, among other issues, the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>public examination of draft laws in the field of freedom of speech, citizens&#8217; rights to information, protection of the rights of journalists and mass media professionals;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>submitting proposals to the Committee concerning the fundamental principles of national policy for ensuring freedom of speech and guarantees for media activity;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>making proposals to enhance compliance with and fulfillment of Ukraine&#8217;s international obligations in the field of freedom protection and media activity guarantees;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>tracking and analyzing government activities related to the adherence to freedom of speech and information rights, and reporting these issues to the Committee;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>monitoring cases related to violations of journalists&#8217; rights and their professional activities, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A total of 15 people have joined the Public Council, a permanent independent collegial expert body. The Public Council operates according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/komsvobslova.rada.gov.ua\/uploads\/documents\/31110.pdf\">Regulation approved on February 21, 2024<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We would like to remind that People&#8217;s Deputy of Ukraine from the \u201cHolos\u201d faction Yaroslav Yurchyshyn became the head of the Committee on Freedom of Speech in December 2023.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":0,"template":"","class_list":["post-8553","news","type-news","status-publish","hentry"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.9 -
