Among other things, they discussed the behavior of the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin during the summit in China. The recording is available on the official YouTube channel of Rada TV at <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/IlJZHK5oZRU?si=aOHfbbTGmZcnAyRJ\">https:\/\/youtu.be\/IlJZHK5oZRU?si=aOHfbbTGmZcnAyRJ<\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Podoliak, the Russian dictator \u201cbehaved atypically\u201d during the meeting because he declared the Ukrainians\u2019 alleged readiness for negotiations. \u201c<em>The man himself invented something about ATACMS and the negotiations. And he says in all seriousness: \u2018There in Ukraine, we are ready to sit down at the negotiating table\u2019 and so on. This is one more sign that the person is fully aware of being isolated,\u201d said Podoliak.<\/em> In response to the question of host Olha Nemtseva at 21:29, he said, \u201cYes, it looks a lot like autism.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Commission on Journalistic Ethics is deeply concerned about such statements of the news host and categorically condemns stereotyping people with autism. This is a gross violation of journalistic ethics. Such words spread prejudice against people with autism and can contain signs of hate speech and ultimately lead to discrimination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to clause 15 of the Ethics Code of the Ukrainian Journalist, \u201cNo one shall be discriminated against on the grounds of sex, language, race, religion, national, regional or social origin or political opinion. Relevant features of a person (group of people) should be indicated only in cases where this information is an essential part of the material. It is necessary to refrain from hints or remarks concerning physical peculiarities or diseases of the person, to avoid use of offensive expressions, profanity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The commission emphasizes that autism spectrum disorders are not a disease, but a condition that arises as a result of specific brain development and is characterized by an innate and comprehensive deficit in social interaction and communication. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news-room\/fact-sheets\/detail\/autism-spectrum-disorders\">According<\/a> to the World Health Organization (WHO), 1 child in 100 has autism. It cannot be treated, but the person can be adapted to social life over time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What is more, as the Ministry of Health of Ukraine <a href=\"https:\/\/moz.gov.ua\/article\/health\/5-mifiv-pro-autizm\">points out<\/a>, it is a common myth that people with autism are withdrawn, unwilling to communicate, and don\u2019t need anyone. That\u2019s actually wrong. Like everyone, they feel the need to communicate. They always have something to say, but may find it challenging to do so. This is why it\u2019s so important to find an alternative way of communication. They require help, support, and understanding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is absolutely necessary to comment on the actions of the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, who started a bloody war of aggression against Ukraine in 2014. However, this should be done in a way that would not be discriminatory towards people with autism.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Commission on Journalistic Ethics calls on the United News telethon, the Rada TV channel, and host Olha Nemtseva to publicly apologize for mentioning autism on air and to implement relevant non-discrimination policies in the content.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, the Commission on Journalistic Ethics recommends that journalists and newsrooms not only refrain from stigmatizing statements, but also regularly undergo training on non-discrimination and social inclusion, using correct terminology.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Any allusion to the inferiority of people with mental disorders \u2014 as well as people with disabilities in general \u2014 should be avoided. They should not be referred to as victims, sick, people with \u201climited opportunities.\u201d Journalists should make every effort to create conditions that would ensure the inclusion of people with disabilities in society and equal treatment of them as other citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Newsrooms should make every effort to ensure that the correction of errors is transparent. People who feel discriminated against have the right to receive an apology from the media if the actions of journalists have exacerbated such inequality.
